Next Years’ Challenge

December 8, 2014 § Leave a comment

Roll up! Roll up! Next year’s two page challenge is…

…pause for sound of Wurlitzer music…

THE WALTZER

The what?

Well, a Waltzer is a fairground ride, so let your imagination ride the pop corn smelling, brash, noisy, creaking, fun fairs of the past (or future).

All you have to do is create a two page comic and send it to us by the 30th May 2015.

Same rules apply as previous years (which I will publish on the website, the moment I get a chance).

Have Fun!

It’s been a bit quiet since the show due to the fact i’ve had my head down to get all the submissions up on our website. adventuresincomics.org

They are all together in all their glory, looking fabulous! Go get reading!

The show was great, we should have some pictures up soon, and we should also have some news soon so keep peeled!

Adventures in Comics shown tonight!

May 2, 2014 § 1 Comment

Tonight will be the first time the public can view ALL submissions to ‘The Orb’ together in one place. If you are in or close to Margate it would be great if you came along, said hi and get lost in a few comics. Details are here. Unfortunately because i’m finishing setting up the show there will be no comic today.

I like this style of mixed media and that monkey looks well happy at the end. Yay happy monkey. A nice break away from a standard panel comic.

I am an artist and illustrator that lives in London. In my work I am interested in the crossover between ‘Fine Art’ and ‘Comics’. My drawing at the moment is influenced a lot  by Dada and Surrealist collage. I am as much interested in the materials used and naïve mark making as I am in telling a story.

I really REALLY love this style of artwork, i could read this comic forever! Will be checking out more of Ballardini’s stuff.

– Kim

Silvia Ballardini, known as Silly. 23 years old. Physically between Ravenna and Bologna, mentally in different place somewhere in space and time. She graduated at artistic high school P.L.Nervi in Ravenna in 2010 and she earned a 3-year degree at Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna in 2014, painting class. She’s currently studying comic art at Academy of Fine Art of Bologna. She’s a comic artist, an illustrator and a complete nerd. She’s influenced by the aesthetic of Victorian Era and by her great obsession: TV series. Trails of all her interests can also be found in her work: movies, books, comics, music, science fiction, anime, manga, videogames, cosplay.
She’s still waiting for her Hogwarts letter and the sudden appearance of the Tardis.

Sorry there wasn’t a blog post yesterday, as you may know the Adventures in Comics exhibition is on Friday and i am currently preparing the show.

Here’s a comic from Jake Lava, which i must admit made me laugh a little too loud in the office.

This is Edieop; an illustrator, creator of comics and truly awful things. she likes to draw in inks and crayon, occasionally paints and works with collage and mixed media to create macabre and sometimes slightly absurd illustrative narratives and comics.

This comic reminds me of old school textbook comics, but this is much more interesting and fun!
